There are two aspects to web marketing.

Passive marketing which involves having the website ranking highly in the search engines for visitor searches. Visitors come to you by finding your website on a search engine or directory for a particular search word or phrase.

Active marketing, such as targeted email newsletters sent to prospects/clients who have given their permission to receive this information. Writing news updates and blogs on the website will also help with the search engines. Running a Pay Per Click campaign where a selection of known words/phrases are bid upon on the main search engines (this will show a company advert with a link at the top of the search engine listings).

Make sure your website is promoted by telephone and literature to encourage visitors to use the website as a resource. The most effective marketing is to combine the website marketing alongside traditional marketing.
